Tula region is both a business region, and a popular tourist destination, where there are different rest options for everyone.
There are no other regions in Russia, which would have the same number of places of attraction: Yasnaya Polyana was home to the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, a place where the Russian artist V.D. Polenov lived and created his works. One can also see the famous Bezhin Lug depicted by Turgenev in one of his books and the first Russian battlefield — Kulikovo Pole, the largest museum of weapons in the world, which has a contemporary multimedia exposition.
Great writers and artists were inspired by Tula landscapes and provincial streets. Vasily Zhukovsky, Lev Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev and Ivan Bunin commemorated the region in literature, and prominent artists Vasily Polenov and Grigory Myasoedov did the same on their canvases.
Tula`s history is rich in events, which were depicted by the unique monuments, memorials, architecture of the ancient towns, churches and estates, in the masterpiece of national and world culture.
Tula region is famous with its brands — accordion, samovar and weapons. Tula tradition of tea-party with the use of a samovar, gingerbread and Belev pastille is still with us and has survived during the centuries. As for the XIX century, back than Belev berry dessert was even being shipped to France, where it was being served to the table of noble people.

Main tourist attractions and cities of the region
Tula is an administrative, economic, cultural and tourist center of Tula region. First mentions of an ancient settlement Tula stem from 1146.
Due to its compelling history and variety of brands Tula is known to each Russian resident. The brands are the following: weapons, samovars, accordions and a fragrant Tula gingerbread. Each brand has its own museum.
Odoev is one of the oldest towns of Tula region, it is known from the XIV century. It is the place where history is being honored and traditions are being cherished. It is namely here one of the oldest crafts in Russia was originated, this craft is more than 700 years old. The craft is production of Filimonovskaya clay toy. In the Odoev museum of Filimonovskaya toy there are more than 2 000 exhibit items. Also, Odoev is called the home place of elephants: a tooth and a tusk of a mammoth were found at the territory of Odoev. One can see these findings in a museum of regional ethnography.
Belev is a former chief town of a district, it has a compelling history and famous brands (Belev pastille and lace). Also, it`s one of the most ancient cities of the ancient Russian state, and the former center of Belev knyazhestvo. Here the tourists will be able to see stone buildings stemming from the end of the XIX ― beginning of the ХХ century. More than 100 buildings are valuable from the historical and architectural point of view and are guarded by the government.
Venyov is a former chief town of a district in Moscow state. Namely here there is the highest bell tower, the oldest chambers and the most ancient convent of Tula region.
Aleksin was founded at the end of the ХIII century, founded by the youngest son of Alexander Nevsky, by the first Moscow knyaz Danil Alexandrovich. The old part of this town, Zarechie is unique and interesting for the history lovers.
Here one can see old churches, merchant houses, which had survived up to our days, and which have wooden top floors and stone low floors designed for trade.
One of the biggest Russian rivers is flowing nearby, it`s Oka river. Today the entrepreneurs of Aleksin have restored old traditions of sturgeon breeding, and invite tourists, to see the process of these noble fish breeding with their own eyes.
Bogoroditsk. The brand of the town is a palace and garden complex of the Bobrinsks estate, which was built for an illegitimate son of the Russian empress Catherine the Great. The palace is situated on the highest point of the town, the town streets diverge from the palace like star beams going in different directions.
Epiphan is called the capital of Kulikovo Pole and its gates. The city was founded in the 60th of the XVI century. Surrounded by a graff and a wooden stockade Epiphan was used as a fortress. At the place of a typical merchant estate of the XIX century there is a museum of merchant lifestyle, where one can submerge into a quiet life of a Russian bourgeois living at the beginning of the ХХ century, as well as haggle over the price in a real merchant shop.
Not far away from Epiphan there is Sebino village, home town of the saint Matrona Moscovskaya, one of the most famous and honored saints in Russia. In Sebino one can visit a church, bathing houses and a museum are functioning.
Chekalin is one of the smallest historical cities of Russia. Before 1944 this place was known as Likhvin town. At one point this town was one of the outerposts of the Bolshaya Zasechnaya Cherta. Up till now one can see earth mounds on Koziy island, these are the remnants of the former fortress. Here there is a unique monument of ancient history and culture of the IX century — Sobornaya Mountine.
Dubna. About three hundred years ago a Tula manufacturer Fedor Kuzmich Moslov built an iron foundry plant here. The Mosolov dynasty had been constructing buildings in Dubna district, some part of the buildings has survived up to these days. The main estate house of the Mosolovs was renovated in 2018, here one can check out expositions on Dubna history, as well as check the expositions on the famous Dubna iron foundry plant.
Dedilovo is an old village at the bank of Shivoron river, where the army of the tsar Ivan the Terrible defeated the army of the khan Devlet Giray. It happened in 1552. Today there is a magnificent and radiantly beautiful Church of St. Paraskeva Pyatnitsa located here. The church is painted inside and outside and has a luxuriant decoration. There is a beautiful yard near the church, as well as a garden with an unusual landscape.
Plavsk is one of the historical towns of the Tula region. It was built by four generations of knyazs Gagarins. Today there are more than 20 buildings stemming from that time in Plavsk: a school, a hospital, an electro station, stone merchants` rows and residential houses. The Gagarins in the meantime stem from Ryurik, the ancestor of the Ryurikovitch dynasty, which had been ruling Russia previously.
Krapivna is a former chief town of a district with a very compelling history. The village has preserved a typical look of a Russian provincial town of the XIX century. There is a functioning museum in the ancient merchant mansion of the Saburovs, there one can see the lifestyle of different social stratums, ancient maps and unique pictures. Starting from 2002, an international festival of nettle is being held during the first month of summer. It`s namely here where one can try a wide variety of dishes made of nettle and with nettle.
Romantsovskie Mountains or Konduki is the brand of Tula and Tula region, it`s a Scandinavia-like place located not far away from Moscow. These are the former quarries, where coal had been openly mined. Summer in Konduki is a time to bathe in clear and chilly lakes, a time of unusual photosessions at the tops of gob piles, a time of camping under the open sky full of stars. In winter one can skate across the local lakes surrounded by a rocky landscape sprinkled with snow. Skate across the local lakes with their crystal-clear and transparent ice surface.
Transport availability of the region
Tula region is situated in the center of Russia, in just 180 kilometers from Moscow. One can get to Tula from airports “Domodedovo” and “Vnukovo” by highways М2 and М4 within just 3 hours (from “Sheremetyevo” airport within 4 hours and 30 minutes).
Tula, Moscow and other cities of Central part of Russia are connected with one another by bus and railroad communication.
One can get to Tula from Moscow on “Lastochka” train within just 2 hours. Also, one can get to Tula, while having used carsharing and travel in such a way across the region.

Culture-related tourism
Tula region is a museum region. Here there are 90 museums, many of which have no comparable counterparts in Russia.
Tourists can get acquainted with interactive expositions with European quality, get lots of positive emotions and impressions.
In 2020 a unique Museum quarter was established in the center of the city, there one can find museums, cafes, and restaurants, as well as giftshops.
Arms tourism
As a town where there are many gunmakers Tula can brag the largest collection of cold-arms and firearms. Tourists will be told about Tula weapons in the Tula State Museum of Weapons, as well as in an open-air museum “Kulikovo Pole”, and in the museum “Tula Kremlin”. One can practice pigeon shooting in a pistol club of the park-hotel “Citadel”.
Industrial tourism
In Tula region tourists can visit functioning factories and production facilities. In the confectionary “Yasnaya Polyana” all the guests will be suggested to make a gingerbread, at the fish-breeding company “Priokskoye” the guests will be told about all the tricks of sturgeon breeding, as well as about getting real caviar.

Tula region gives wide opportunities for suburban rest. Tourists are being hosted both by recreation camps, where one can ride a horse and by suburban hotels, where one can visit a petting farm and to take part in master-classes on making cheese, brewing and bread baking.
Tourists can rest in a “village of the future” in eco park “Yasno Pole”, which comprises the opportunities of rural tourism, active rest and an art space.

There are 27 delicious brands on the gastronomic map of Tula region: in Tula the tourists can try Tula gingerbread, Belev pastille, birch quass, and pies with nettle.
Namely in Tula region there is the first locar restaurant in Russia, “Mark & Lev”, where the cooks prepare only the dishes in accordance with the recipes of the local Tula cuisine and use local products. In the restaurant one can try the dishes in accordance with the recipe of the Tula native person Vasily Levshin, the creator of the first Russian recipe-book. In some restaurants of Tula region tourists are being awaited by dishes cooked in accordance with the recipes of Sofiya Andreevna Tolstaya, the wife of the great writer.

Tula State Museum of Weapons
It is the largest weaponry museum. The museum exposition is located in two buildings. The collection and exposition of the museum reflect all the evolution of firearms and bladed weapons of the XIV century up to our days, as well as history of Tula weapons production. The museum actively uses contemporary multimedia technologies: a “a virtual guide”, electronic tags, holographic schemes of weapons` work.
Memorial estate of Leo Tolstoy “Yasnaya Polyana”
Yasnaya Polyana is a unique Russian estate, a family estate of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. He was born here, here had he lived the largest part of his life, “War and Peace” and “Anna Karenina”, as well as many other books were written here. Here is he buried.
Today the tourists can check out the following at the territory of the memorial estate: the house of L.N. Tolstoy, the house of Volkonsky, a wing of the house belonging to Kuzmenskikh, coachman`s room and a Zhitnya village.
Open-air museum “Kulicovo Pole”
Kulikovo Pole is a reserve territory with a unique architectural ensemble of memorial and architectural, archeological and natural monuments. This is the first battlefield in Russia, where a battle between the Golden Horde khan Mamay and the joint forces of Russian knyazs took place. The joint forces of Russian knyazs were headed by the Grand Moscow Knyaz Dmitry Donskoy.
Tourists can yearly observe the famous battle reconstruction at the Kulikovo Pole.
The museum complex “Kulekovo Pole” in Mokhovoe village is situated in the proximity to the field where the Kulikovo battle took place. The museum complex has a contemporary multimedia exposition.
Memorial estate museum of V.D. Polenov
An estate of the famous Russian artist Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov is situated in Tula region, in a picturesque place at the bank of Oka river. Practically all the buildings of Polenovo were built in accordance to the drawings of the artist himself, and even the Troitskaya church located in Bekhovo village was built in accordance with Polenov`s drawings. It`s worth to mention that Polenovo exists even these days practically intact, only some minor buildings were destroyed. Namely because of this when one enters into the museum, it seems, that in the next second the owner of the estate will emerge at the doorstep to meet his dear guests.
Museum the “Tula Kremlin”
The Tula Kremlin is a monument of Russian defensive architecture of the XVI century. Built in a very important strategical destination it had been defending the southern borders of Russia for centuries. Today Tula Kremlin comprises hefty walls made of red bricks, 9 towers, 2 domes minsters, one of them is Svyato-Uspensky cathedral, which was built in XVIII century, and Bogoyavlensky cathedral, which was built in the middle of the XIX century.
Here festivals, events and interesting tours are being held.
In 2020 Tula Kremlin celebrated its 500th anniversary. Here the medieval obsidional yards were recreated, starting from January 2021 we plan to perform tourist programs there. In the middle of Tula Kremlin there is an archeological pit, where there are more than three hundred of valuable historical findings.
New season novelties and main news
- The historical center of the city was restored in Tula. It`s a must visit.
Metallistov Street, one of the first and oldest streets in Tula, has been pedestrian since 2018. It starts from the Pyatnitskie Gate of Tula Kremlin and ends at Sovetskaya Street. In the XVI century it was called Pyatnitskaya Street, the name originated from the church of St. Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, which was situated nearby. Metallistov Street got its contemporary name in 1924 due to Tula division of the Moscow society dealing with metal treatment.
In 2018 the citizens and guests of the city got back Kazanskaya esplanade going along the walls of Tula Kremlin. The esplanade had been closed for visitors during one hundred years.
Walking along the esplanade one can compare with each other pictures of Kazanskaya esplanade belonging to different epochs: leisure walks of the XIX — beginning of the XX centuries, desolation of the Soviet period and vibrant entertainment life of the XXI century.
On the 26 of September 2020 there was a great celebration of 500th anniversary of Tula Kremlin construction, as way of beginning of the Bolshaya Zasechnaya Cherta creation.
On the occasion of the anniversary a unique Museum quarter appeared in the historical center of Tula. The Museum comprises branch offices of major Russian museums: National History Museum, country house museum “Yasnaya Polyana”, where Leo Tolstoy lived, reserve museums of V.D. Polenov and “Kulikovo Pole”, regional and private museums of kazakdom, museums of decorative and applied arts, as well as museums of contemporary art, and soviet toy.
An unusual city location — a creative cluster “Iskra” was created in the center of the city.
It`s a new level of city environment formation, here spaces and offices for creative teams, young designers, photographers, and architects are located near each other, as well as exhibition halls, restaurants, bars and cafes, beauty parlors and festival sites.
“Iskra” is also a restaurant quarter: a cozy European yard with lots of options how to spend your time in a leisure manner.
For the conveniences of tourists, we have established tourist information centers, where there is a service division dealing with submitting information on regional tourist products, places of attraction, events, tour routes, transport, shopping, and entertainment.
In tourist information center one can get a free tourist map and brochures on region places of attraction, as well as get to know, where can one stay to eat. A hotline was established for the guests of the region and a pedestrian tourist navigation was installed.
